The wheel of the world is turning. The age arising is unsettled, confused, and violent.
I am only one being. One curlicue of karmic currents. And yet I touch the earth and connect with everything in the universe.
My liberation is bound up with yours. If you can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.
Until we are all awake, none of us are awake. Until we are all free, none of us are free.
That’s why I love the Four Great Vows of the Bodhisattva. This is my take–a free translation/adpatation:
- All beings without limit, I vow to serve.
- Delusions endlessly arising, I vow to disrupt.
- Dharma gates beyond measure, I vow to pass through.
- Buddha’s unsurpassable path, I vow to go beyond.
